We're safe in Bangkok. Landed at 7am local time to a temperature of 25 Celsius (75ish Fahrenheit) Should get to 100 by mid afternoon.
In addition to the sweltering heat we were welcomed by black-smoke belching busses, multitudes of put-puttering mopeds and the fragrant odors of steaming food filling the air. The sidewalks are packed with people already and the avenues are a continuous stream of traffic.
We've been awake for twenty-four hours now and are waiting for a room to open up at our hotel. We have reservations, but a room won't be available until noon. So we dodged traffic, frogger style, walked to the river, bought some water in a 7-11 and rested on some random steps in front of a shopping plaza that hadn't opened for the day yet. It started to sprinkle, which really didn't bother us since we were drenched in sweat already, but we took refuge in a Starbucks anyway. We sipped iced mocha lattes and felt a little guilty for succumbing to the familiar surroundings after only an hour or so, but, hey, living on the streets is tough man.
We're looking forward to the night bazaar tonight, some sightseeing tomorrow, maybe a river tour, then we fly to Chiang Mai on Sunday. I'll send updates when I can.
